JEAN MACHELEDT

JEAN MACHELEDT received her bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from the University of Minnesota (’83), her law degree from the University of Denver (Aug’88) while working at The Gates Corporation, and has completed upper-division Electrical Engineering courses at both the University of Colorado (Boulder) and Stanford University (while working at Hewlett Packard Co.).

Jean is admitted to practice law in both Colorado (’89) and Minnesota (’90). She is a U.S. Registered Patent Attorney (’89). Her hands-on engineering work experiences include: University of Minnesota MechE Particle Tech Lab; U of MN Institute of Technology undergraduate tutor; Hewlett Packard Co. manufacturing engineer (Colorado); and medical device manufacturer QA manager (Texas). Technical work experience encompassed the analysis and design of mechanical, biological and electrical systems and devices, including medical devices (prostheses, implants and bio-compatible materials) as well as computer FEA modeling, particle/aerosol measuring equipment technology, and printed circuit board (PCB), voltmeter data acquisition and circuit-test equipment assembly and production.

Prior to forming Macheledt & Bales LLP on in Aug’96, Jean’s corporate law experience included: Patent Counsel for The Gates Corp. (Denver), and General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Otsuka Electronics USA, Inc., subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co, Ltd. (Fort Collins). Jean had also affiliated with a Boulder County IP law practice, as of counsel, handling transactional intellectual property matters.
 
Technological areas of interest: Electronic and structural/materials science-related technologies incorporating principles of electromagnetics, including remote sensors/telemetry, antennas, and medical equipment; SCSI-compliant devices and systems; manufacturing/production equipment, assemblies, and devices for wafer/chip fabrication, material handling, and PCB/PWB as well as electronic equipment assembly; handheld tools; structures and materials of manufacture; Web/INTERNET-related systems, hardware and software including business and financial sector software applications, HVAC system control, light projection/structured light projection system control, diagnostic devices (system and control); wearable therapeutic biomechanically tailored garment systems; ‘smart’ (energy efficient) building materials; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology; polymer-chemistry (including thermally-formable and molded materials and articles); hydraulic hose/couplings; mechanical transport devices; rechargeable electrochemical cells and cell chargers; and electronic devices.

In addition to speaking regularly to the business, legal, and engineering communities, Jean is a member of the national American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the Colorado Bar Association (CBA), and Larimer Country Bar Association (LCBA). She is also an active community and school volunteer.
